PAWN TO BE WILD

Violent outbursts of "chess rage" have been reported in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Fed-up librarians banned the game after unruly players and fans hurled foul-mouthed abuse as tempers ran high. "We had five or six tables going, with little groups standing around watching," said librarian Moncena Rowley. But the atmosphere soon deteriorated as rivalries built up. The spokeswoman said: "It was boisterous language, which was just not appropriate."
