What is a Social Enterprise?
A Social Enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives. Surpluses are reinvested in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profits.
There is no single model. They include companies limited by guarantee, industrial and provident societies, registered charities, and those limited by shares.
Enterprising as opposed to being grant-led, they aim to be sustainable. Social Enterprises have a distinct role to play in helping to create a strong, viable, sustainable and socially inclusive economy.

Social & Private Enterprise Incubator in Harehills
The Camberwell Project is developing a £6M Social and Private Enterprise Incubation Centre in Harehillls, Leeds. The Centre will provide hyper growth and highly scalable or replicable firms from the Social Enterprise and Private Sectors with intensive incubation services. Additionally, the centre will support community enterprises in the additional space to ensure its place in the larger regeneration scheme. The goal is to cross pollinate the Mission of Social Enterprise and the Economic Model of Private Enterprise to build better companies in both sectors. The centre is expected to open in late 2007
